Takeaways from App Promotion Summit Berlin 2018

Moburst joined thought leaders in the mobile world, at App Promotion Summit Berlin 2018. In this post, I’ll share some key takeaways and the latest trends affecting mobile, and how you can leverage these to increase your success.

ASO Front and Center

I was amazed to see how App Store Optimization (ASO) has become universally accepted as being absolutely critical to any app’s success. Whereas in past conferences we attended, ASO got a passing mention and discussions focused on what is ASO, it’s amazing to see how this has become such a dominant topic. APS Berlin 2018 had its own workshop track, and was constantly brought up whether in private conversations with top marketers, or by industry experts on public panels. Our take is that ASO is going to become even more important in 2019. Companies that don’t have an effective ASO strategy will end up wasting resources, fail to achieve their potential, and will land up chasing the game. Conversely, organizations with effective and updated ASO practices will be able to level up and compete.

Search Ads and CRO

Another interesting topic covered was Apple search ads and it’s inherent connection to ASO. Particularly, how it affects organic ranking and growth.

A lot of time was also dedicated to CRO conversion rate optimization of the app page itself,  and how to test this effectively. Broadly, this took place within a general discussion of how to decide where to put your efforts in ASO, as well as how to create a good overview of your organic sources through the limited data Google Play and App Store Connect supply. There were some incredible case studies, tips, and keys for success. We’ll be sharing these in future posts.

New Growth Channels

As all marketers know, you have to be where your audience is. New opportunities have opened up, including for example, in channels such as Pinterest. There are so many channels out there, each with their own unique characteristics, and it’s of critical importance to understand how these work and harness them in the most effective way. Watch this space for more about marketing your app on Pinterest, winning content marketing strategies, viral loops and a whole lot more.

Marketing To Millennials

Channels like Snapchat and Instagram are where millennials are spending their time, and it’s certainly not a “one size fits all” game when it comes to these channels. To appeal to these users, you have to speak their language, grab their attention, excite them, and stand out. It’s a whole different world from Facebook ads and there is much more opportunity to get interactive; from swipe-ups to mixed reality campaigns and everything in between.

Berlin 2018, You Were Great

It’s always nice to meet colleagues and fellow mobile marketing experts, and share our learnings, as well as learn from others. As veterans in this field, it’s amazing to see how quickly the industry has evolved and App Promotion Summit Berlin was another example. I was also surprised about the booming mobile industry which has evolved in Berlin with so many app related companies! As always, we will expand in future posts and share our knowledge with you, to help you take your mobile marketing to the next level.
